Why I'm Running
Our Democracy is at Stake.
We are witnessing a system where power and money are shaping the future, not the people. Politicians are more focused on winning at all costs than solving problems. The broken incentive structure in our politics means that as a candidate, I don’t need to get voters to actually like me — I just need to get them to hate my opponent more than they hate me. This race to the bottom has created the toxic, divisive politics we see today.
I’ve heard it firsthand as a state representative: "All politicians are liars" and "You just attack each other — you don’t talk about what you’ll actually do." People feel disconnected, and they’re right to. Our system is designed to serve the rich and powerful, not everyday Americans.
If we want to fix this, we need real change. That’s why I’m exploring a run for U.S. Senate. The Senate is the natural place to address these issues. From confirming judges who are committed to fair redistricting and willing to reconsider Citizens United, to passing the structural reforms we need, the Senate holds the power to shape the future of our democracy.
One of the most crucial actions we can take is to tackle the influence of money in politics. Take, for example, how unresponsive politicians are about issues like Gaza. If you’re frustrated that our leaders are doing nothing to address the crisis, look at the money. Follow the money, and you’ll see how the influence of big donors shapes their decisions — prioritizing political loyalty and campaign contributions over human rights and justice.
We also need to fix our broken election system. Citizens United (a ruling I believe future historians will judge harshly, perhaps as one of the worst decisions of the modern Supreme Court) opened the floodgates for corporate money in our politics, giving the wealthy more influence than ever. The Senate has the power to confirm judges who will stand up to Citizens United and push for the changes we need. I will fight to overturn that decision, ensuring that ordinary Americans — not corporations — have the power to decide our future. I’ll also fight for fair elections by addressing gerrymandering, so politicians can’t choose their voters. Voters should choose their politicians.
This fight is about more than just winning an election — it’s about restoring faith in our democracy, so citizens can once again feel that their elected officials are truly accountable to them. For too long, we’ve put our faith in charismatic leaders who promise change. What we need is a movement — one that impacts all levels of government and passes reforms that protect us from bad-faith power grabs. The Senate plays a critical role in that movement, especially through its role in confirming judges. No judge should be confirmed without first being questioned about their views on the influence of money in politics, the consequences of Citizens United, and their stance on how gerrymandering undermines voters' rights.
This fight is bigger than one election. It’s about restoring fairness and accountability to our government. The Senate is where we can make these changes — from confirming judges who uphold the law and protect democracy to passing reforms that give power back to the people. We can no longer tolerate a system that caters to the wealthy while leaving everyday Americans behind. That’s why I’m running: to stand up for you — and for me. I live the daily struggle too.
